How to Get Involved

The Primate Rescue Center is home to over 50 nonhuman primates of nearly a dozen different species, many of which are endangered. The animals in our care have come from a variety of situations - some are ex-research subjects, some are from roadside zoos, others are former pets. They all have experienced some degree of suffering from their time with humans, and all are in the midst of lifelong rehabilitation. To avoid subjecting our residents to unnecessary stress, we are not open as a public attraction. However, we do host volunteer and internship programs that enable interested individuals to lend a hand.

Volunteer Program

The Primate Rescue Center volunteer program is open to adults 18 years old and above. We have dozens of tasks, on-site and off, that demand varying degrees of time, dedication and physical activity. These tasks include everything from weekly cleanings and food preparation to the occasional picking up of supplies or donations of professional services.

Internship Program

Our program is open to college students (sophomore year and above) who are seriously interested in pursuing careers in animal care and/or advocacy. The program is designed to immerse students in the daily operation of a nonprofit animal sanctuary. Interns assist with daily animal husbandry, behavioral observation and analysis, various administrative tasks and special projects.
